MAYA

Blimp (Game Asset)

The first few projects on this page are some assets I created for my 3D game programming group project. This first model is the blimp from our game Bitch'n Rescue Heroes. This is the players ship and is used to fight the enemy and rescue the civilians. The propeller mesh you see on the blimp is a separate mesh that is included in the Maya Binary zip file. It was created separately to allow us to make it spin in the game. This vehicle has dual stationary mini-guns mounted on the side that are forward facing.

TS1000 (Game Asset)

This model is one of three enemies developed for the game. This vehicle is a hovercraft which will hover feet above the ground and will attack the player when the player lands to rescue civilians. It, like the player, has quad stationary mini-guns that face forward. This enemy can move maneuver quickly to attack the player from behind. As the blimp cannot mover as fast, evasion will be tough.

Slayer (Game Asset)

The slayer is a robotic attacker that has the power of flight. It uses boosters attached to the front and back of the craft to allow it to fly and hover close to the players ship and attack up close. It will attack the player anywhere and will only attack when the player is in flight. It has dual mini-guns that, when combined with close combat will kill the player in a matter of moments. The players best hope is to kill this enemy quickly before it begins its attack.

Enemy Craft (Game Asset)

The third and final enemy I developed is called simply Enemy Craft. Its a fast flying ship that uses speed to its advantage. It is equipped with bombs and will fly quick passes over the players ship and lob bombs down on the player.

Animate Sack Using Bones

This project is an introduction to creating key frame animations using bones inside of a NURBS object. The first task is to create a sack of flour using NURBS. The second is to add a skeleton to it and create a small animation.

Sack of Flour Animation

This project is pretty straight forward. You see a sack of flour I created using NURBS. I added a skeleton to it to allow movement of the different sections. I textured the sack and lighted the environment. I then took it through several motions and made a small animation.

Living Room

This project was to design a living room in 3D using Maya. Once the environment was created, simple textures were to be applied to the room. Since texturing hasn't yet been covered in class, these textures can all be ones built into the Maya animation package.

Living Room Scene

This room remains fairly simple. It is new age style design which leads to some very interesting shape and color schemes. To the right there is a table and a bookshelf behind it against the wall. Towards the left there is a flat screen TV. Against the back wall is a leather textured sofa with a little end table to the left of it. In front of the sofa is a class coffee table that is resting on top of two marble textured half spheres. There are two "strange" looking art pieces in the scene. One rests above the sofa and the other is on the left side wall.

Polygon Modeling

This project is an introduction to modeling in polygons. No animating here, this is just straight forward modeling at its best. The idea is to start out with one box shaped polygon and extend off that untill the desired result is created.

Hammer

The first exercise here is the model of a hammer. This was created using polygons. It started as a simple box, and was extended and manipulated off that to create the shape of the hammer.

Chicken

This exercise is to create a chicken out of polygons. Again, the beginning object was a simple box to be extended and manipulated to create the final product. This model is to be used later in a project with lighting and texturing.

NURBS Primitives

These two models were my first experience in using Maya. The tasks were fairly simple, create two scenes using NURBS primitives and animate one of them. The point of this exercise was to learn the Maya interface and jump right into some modeling techniques.

Scene 1 - Doughnut Platter

For my first scene that was not to be animated I created a platter of doughnuts/doughnut holes. The doughnuts are of varying colors and were created using NURBS Torus'. I applied simple phong textures to the doughnuts and a marble like texture to the platter itself.

Scene 2 - Primitives

This scene is the one I decided on animating. In keeping this in mind I arranged my primitives in such a way that would afford movement. I built a small ramp and placed a torus at the top which I planned on rolling down the ramp. There is a block at the end of the ramp with a sphere balancing precariously on top. When the torus strikes the block, well, you can guess where the sphere goes. It is a simple little scene that was intended to teach how to do key frame animations in Maya. I found out from this exercise they they were pretty much the same as keyframe animations in other applications such as Director.
